In national politics, we always focus on the EU and global affairs. How many times have you seen the news about nordic politics? Not many, I think. Nordic politics should be more interesting because it’s full of potential. We, young people, are in the key position to change this course.
The nordic cooperation needs clearly young idealistic minds. The vision of Nordic cooperation is to be the most integrated and sustainable area in the world. That is a great vision and needs more increasingly determined work. If we are comparing the EU and Nordics, at the nordic level is easier to get great visions through the political system. That is because we have fewer countries that are too different from nordic values. We, young nordic politicians, have a key position to push forward the process to even greater Nordics.
The problem is that people really don’t know much about nordic politics and usually the nordic political organizations are seed as a competitor to the European Union even though it’s not true. People need more information about nordic politics. Nordic decisions should be even more visible. NCF also has a responsibility with other umbrella organizations to give information to our members. Most importantly to courage our members to participate in work in the Nordic youth council (Ungdommens Nordiske Råd, UNR).
Nordic countries are so similar in many ways. In politics, we usually have many similar problems and visions. Nordic cooperation also creates an understanding of each other. We can learn and create so much more together. After the pandemic recovery is time to show the way. Now or ever is demand for young leaders who will show the way.
NCF gathers up this Sunday to our Fall congress: Top meeting. It’s organized online but the board is more than hopeful that our members will have a physical Repskap 2022 in the spring. In this Top meeting, we will work on our resolutions and also talk about what is happening in our member organizations. This is a great way to get into nordic politics and network with other young politicians in Nordic counties.
